What Is the Army Height & Weight Calculator?
The Army Height & Weight Calculator checks a person’s weight against the US Army height-to-weight screening table in AR 600-9. Select a gender, enter age, height in inches, and weight in pounds, then click Process to see the maximum screening weight for that height and age and whether the weight passes the screening.
How to Use the Army Height & Weight Calculator
- Choose Gender: Male or Female.
- Enter Age in years.
- Enter Height in inches (the workspace accepts 58–80).
- Enter Weight in pounds (lbs).
- Click Process.
- Read the result: it shows height in inches and cm, weight in lbs and kg, the maximum weight for that height and age, and a PASSES or screening result. Use Copy or Download to save it, or Clear to start over.
Worked Example
Entering Gender Male, Age 25, Height 70 inches, Weight 175 lbs and clicking Process gave: Height 70 inches (177.8 cm), Weight 175 lbs (79.4 kg), Max weight (AR 600-9, age 25): 193 lbs — Screening result: PASSES (within weight standards). The result also noted that AR 600-9 is the governing regulation and that screening weights increase slightly for older age groups (21–27, 28–39, 40+).
Limitations
- The workspace accepts height only in inches (58–80) and weight only in pounds. There is no metric cm/kg input and no separate feet/inches fields, despite what older copy on this page may have claimed.
- The result is a screening check against the AR 600-9 height-weight table only. It does not calculate BMI and does not perform a body-fat tape test, so it cannot give a body-fat percentage.
- Passing the screening table does not by itself guarantee meeting all Army body-composition requirements. Failing the table normally leads to a tape test, which this tool does not perform.
- The maximum weights are the tool’s built-in AR 600-9 table values. Confirm the current regulation and table before relying on the result for an official screening.
- Results are an estimate for planning and self-checking, not an official Army determination or medical advice.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does PASSES mean?
It means the entered weight is at or below the maximum screening weight for that gender, age, and height — in the worked example, 175 lbs against a 193 lb maximum for a 25-year-old male at 70 inches.
Can I enter height in centimetres or weight in kilograms?
No. The workspace takes height in inches and weight in pounds only. The result shows the metric equivalents (cm and kg) for reference.
Does this tool calculate body fat?
No. It checks the height-weight screening table only and does not perform a tape test or estimate body-fat percentage.
Is the Army Height & Weight Calculator free to use?
Yes. It is free to use in your browser with no sign-up required.
